Description
No one knows where the name Shoshoni came from. They were known to the Teton Dakotas (Sioux) as Snakes and to the Crow Indians as Grass Lodges. They ranged through the Rocky Mountians in Wyoming, Utah and Idaho. Fine hunters and horsemen, this portrait is of two Shoshonis as they looked in the 1860s, riding over the country that they loved so much.
